Ongoing Activities
Here are some of the ongoing activities in the Salina Healthy Lifestyles program.
ARTS AND CRAFTS
Art Classes Art classes taught by Barb Culley are offered on Mondays and Tuesdays. The fee is $8 a session. Crafts Craft workshops, offered by Salina Parks and Recreation 50-Plus, are scheduled monthly at the Senior Center. Sewing An RSVP-sponsored activity brings participants to the Senior Center on Wednesdays to create lap robes, pillows and other items for charitable purposes.
CARDS AND GAMES
Bingo 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Free Fun Bingo This Bingo, sponsored by Hospice Care of Kansas, is played at 9:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Pitch, Pinochle and Joker Board (a marbles game) 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays. Pool Three tables are available without charge Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Texas Hold em Poker 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. Bunko This dice game is played at 1:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.
COMPUTERS
Salina Senior Center Computer Lab The lab makes Internet-connected computers available to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. There is no cost. Computer Classes Each month, the Computer Lab offers an introductory computer class and a class on the use of e-mail and the Internet. Computer help Individual computer help is available without cost from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on weekdays. The Senior Computer Users Group Meets monthly with planned activities to learn about specific computer topics.
HEALTH AND FITNESS
Blood pressure checks Free blood pressure checks are offered from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the first Thursday and second Wednesday of each month. Foot clinic Foot care ($15) and nail trimming ($3) are offered on Thursday morningss. Call the Senior Center at 827-9818 for appointment.
LIFELONG LEARNING
Bible Study George Easter leads this non-denominational group in monthly study sessions at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays. Caregivers Education and Self-Help Support Group This group for those who care for elderly persons has an educational meeting at 2 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month at Sunflower Adult Day Services and an informal get-together for lunch at a local restaurant on the third Thursday of the month. Creative Writing Judy and Jerry Clarke lead this group, which meets at 10 a.m. on Thursdays. Genealogy James Brown offers help in tracing family roots. The afternoon sessions are conducted on the first and third Fridays of the month. Spelling Bee The Senior Center annually sponsors a Saline County spelling bee for seniors in August and a statewide bee in October.
NUTRITION
Lunch at the Senior Center Tasty, low-cost lunches are available to all at the Salina Senior Center on weekdays. We offer hot meal specials and a daily salad bar, and the cost for either is just $3.50. Our serving line is open from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Frozen Meals These microwave-ready meals include an entrιe and two side dishes. They are available to all at a cost of $3. Meals on Wheels Volunteers deliver meals to those who are homebound and have limited ability to prepare their own meals. The cost is $3.50, with financial assistance available.

SOCIAL
Music Concerts The Senior Center offers three concerts each month. Salinan Laura Lee Williard sings and plays her guitar at 10:45 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. Abilene pianist Alice Thomas sings and plays at 10:45 a.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. And Crystal Creek Band, a Salina country-western group, plays at 10:30 a.m. on the last Monday of each month. Birthday Party The Senior Celebrates birthdays monthly with music by Alice Thomas, prizes and treats at 11 a.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. Out To Eat With Friends This activity brings participants together for a monthly Dutch-treat dinner at a local restaurant. RSVP Chorus This mixed chorus group gets together on Monday mornings at the Senior Center to sing.
