BUILDING CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION The building that is now home to the Salina Senior Center, the historic former Saline County Courthouse at 245 N. Ninth Street in Salina, is 100 years old this year! To celebrate, there will be a public open house on Thursday, September 16. Come and go from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The public is invited to tour this unique and majestic Salina landmark, get a glimpse of its colorful history, and meet those involved in the surprisingly diverse current uses of the building.
STRONG PEOPLE CLASS It’s that time of year again! No, it’s not time for New Year’s resolutions, but it is time to sign up for a new session of Strong People! If you’re looking for a fun, enjoyable way to increase physical activity this class is for you. It is a light weight training course that helps improve balance, flexibility, builds lean muscle and burns calories. Classes will again be held at the Salina Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30-11:15 beginning September 14th through December 2nd. Leah Robinson, Central Kansas Extension District FCS Agent, will be the instructor. Hand weights and ankle weights will be available at the Senior Center, or you may bring your own.
Cost of the program is $10.00 per person. Registration materials can be found at the Central Kansas Extension District Office located in the basement of the City-County Building or at the Salina Senior Center. Class size is limited to 15 participants. Registration materials are due to the Extension Office by Thursday, September 9th.
This will be a fun, energetic and invigorating class. It was a great success last session. Participants saw marked improvements in many areas, plus it’s a great way to meet new people. Please call Leah Robinson at the Central Kansas Extension District in Salina for more information, 785-309-5850.
SQUARE DANCE LESSONS Doh-si-doh and swing your partner at square dance lessons at the Salina Senior Center, 245 N. 9th, Salina. Classes will be offered Thursday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. beginning Thursday, September 2 and continuing through December 16. $4.00 per person each session. SENIOR FITNESS CLASS This is a fun class for all fitness levels offered on Monday, Wednesday and now Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m. Participants work on strength, balance and flexibility while using light hand weights, elastic bands, and a small exercise ball. Instructor Marian Frank is an experienced fitness leader and a senior herself, and she knows how to encourage and inspire others. The cost is $8.00 per month for three class sessions per week. September classes starts Wednesday September 1, in the third floor fitness room at the Salina Senior Center, 245 N. Ninth. Register in advance at the Senior Center reception area, or you may also register at the first class.
