Computer help available for free
The new year will bring a change in computer learning opportunities offered by the Senior Center. Maurice Kerr, the volunteer who oversees our Computer Lab, will conduct hands-on, informal learning sessions from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each weekday. Kerr intends a different focus each day. On Mondays the focus will be computer hardware, for instance. The focus will be computer software on Tuesdays, the Internet on Wednesdays, e-Mail on Thursdays and general computer topics on Fridays. By focusing the discussion to specific topics, participants can benefit from the group discussion. Individual help also will be available. The daily sessions are in addition to the more formal classes Kerr conducts monthly to help people become computer literate. One of those classes is devoted to basic computer skills, and another focuses on the use of the Internet and e-mail. In addition, Kerr teaches a monthly class on variable subjects for the Senior Computer Users Group. All classes are free and available to the public. In January, the basic computer class will be from 1-4 p.m. on Jan. 14. The Internet and e-mail class will be from 1-4 p.m. on Jan. 21. The Senior Computer Users Group class, titled “New Things,” will be from 1-4 p.m. Jan. 28. Watch the events calendar for classes in other months this year.
